ECNL BOYS READY FOR SWEETNESS AT ECNL ARIZONA SHOWCASE
The boys are ready to roll.
Following the ECNL Boys national event in San Diego, which featured U12 Pre-ECNL teams as well as U13 and U14 sides, the older generation is geared up for their first national event of the season.
ECNL Arizona will feature more than 150 teams from more than 50 clubs across the U16 to U18/19 age groups. Some teams will head to Tucson with plenty of conference games under their belt, while others will see their first game action of the season.
For the first time ever, ECNL Boys will also be hosting a National Selection Game; an all-star competition highlighting the skills and abilities of some of the best players across the league. The National Selection Game will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Kino North Stadium under the lights and in front of a large crowd of spectators. As the National Selection Game allows ECNL players to assess and test themselves against the best in the league, ECNL Arizona allows clubs to gain a measuring stick early in the season to evaluate their squads and showcase their players’ talents, all while seeking some valuable points for ECNL National Playoffs qualification this summer.
At the U16 age group, one team to look out for is Pateadores, currently sitting in second place in the South Division of the Southwest Conference with a 7-1-2 record. The group’s strong start is reflected in a plus-22 goal differential, and on the docket at ECNL Arizona will be three big-ticket clubs: Real Colorado (0-0-0), Solar SC (5-5-3) and Crossfire Premier (5-1-2). Already with a great jump to the season, a big showing at ECNL Arizona will put Pateadores in the driver’s seat to a Champions League berth come June.
In the U17s, Sporting Nebraska has also had a very strong season, beginning conference play in the Heartland with a perfect 6-0-0 record, good enough for the top spot in the Champions League standings, all in its first season in ECNL Boys. When it heads to ECNL Arizona, Sporting Nebraska will face Classics Elite (2-7-2), Slammers FC (7-3-2) and Pride SC (0-0-0). The showcase will be the perfect chance for Sporting Nebraska to face different competition and see unfamiliar styles, something that will come in hand when playoffs arrive.
Lonestar SC South’s U18/19 squad was a force in the U17 age group last season, and the team has picked up right where it left off, beginning the new year with a 6-1-3 record, which puts them in second place in the South Division of the heavily-contested Texas Conference. At ECNL Arizona, the team will have the unique distinction of facing off against the top three teams in the South Division of the Southwest Conference: Del Mar Sharks (5-2-3), San Diego Surf (9-0-1) and Pateadores (8-1-1).
