BOYS RIGHT BACK AT IT AGAIN AT ECNL SOUTH CAROLINA
We’re back at it again.
Just two weeks after a highly successful ECNL Arizona, which featured the league’s incredible first-ever National Selection Game and three days of fantastic soccer, ECNL Boys hosts another national event at ECNL South Carolina. The event will feature the U15-U19 age groups, consisting of 200-plus teams from more than 55 clubs.
ECNL South Carolina will also feature a National Selection Game, highlighting some of the very best athletes the league competing in the league. The National Selection Game will be at 7:00 p.m. ET on Field 10 at the Mesa Soccer Complex, which is expected to deliver an electric atmosphere for players, coaches and fans alike. Just as the National Selection Game pits players of similar talent levels to create the best soccer environment, so too does ECNL South Carolina bring together top teams from across 11 conferences to facilitate competitive games throughout the weekend. With teams earning valuable points for ECNL National Playoffs qualification at ECNL showcases, there is meaning in every match.
For the U15 age group, a team to look out for is Albertson SUSA from the Northeast Conference. ECNL South Carolina will be the team’s first action of the ECNL season, and the squad has some formidable opponents on its slate. Friday will see a matchup against Charlotte Independence Pro (3-1-3), which is followed by a meeting with Alabama FC (7-9-4) on Saturday and the host CESA (5-8-4) Sunday. Playing clubs so far into their season will force Albertson SUSA to jump right into the thick of things and set a bar for the rest of their campaign.
ECNL newcomer Cleveland Force has jumped out to a 2-0-0 start in the Ohio Valley at the U16 age level and heads to South Carolina looking to build off that momentum. Cleveland will open the weekend against Baltimore Celtic (0-0-0) before facing off against Richmond United (8-3-0) and closing the showcase with NC Fusion (3-2-3). South Carolina will be the first national event for Cleveland Force and with a strong schedule of games, it will be a great measuring stick for the team.
Following up a season when the team made it to St. Louis for the ECNL Boys National Finals, South Carolina United’s U17 squad has an 11-5-2 record in a very tough Southeast Conference and at ECNL South Carolina, it won’t get much easier. The team will battle Loudoun Soccer (6-2-2), before a rematch of their National Finals quarterfinal matchup when they play Dallas Texans Academy (9-3-1) on Saturday. South Carolina United closes out their slate with NCFC Youth Academy (3-2-2) Sunday, completing a round of opponents where every team has had equally strong starts to their seasons. National events are a great chance to see how a team does against competition from across the country, and that will surely be the case for South Carolina United.
In the oldest age group, Baltimore Celtic have yet to play a regular-season contest this year, and the team will have three tough contests to kick off their play in 2021. At ECNL South Carolina, the Maryland side will play Tampa Bay United (4-0-2), Tulsa SC (7-5-1) and Dallas Texans (6-5-3). Three quality clubs in three days. What a way to start the season.
